Jon spent Monday and Tuesday at the Center for Rural Virginia’s Rural Policy Summit in Lynchburg. The Rural Policy Summit is an annual gathering of leaders from non-profit organizations, government agencies, and local and state elected officials to discuss pressing issues in rural Virginia. This year’s discussion centered on three critical issues: health care, workforce development, and broadband deployment. Conference attendees also heard from Governor Tim Kaine and Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra.

Jon’s company, EMATS, met with vocational students in multiple sessions throughout the day. Jon addressed the afternoon group and spoke about the importance of vocational training as it relates to Virginia’s workforce. Jon’s company employs a significant number of people who have a high level of vocational training as well as technical experience. There are opportunities to make a very good wage in Virginia with sound vocational training. Jon also had lunch with Assistant Superintendent Mike Puckett and the vocational staff.
